How we test concrete before every floor is cast

Slump tests, cube tests and curing: the routine checks our engineers carry out on site, and why they matter to the people who will live there.

How we test concrete before every floor is cast

The strength of a building is decided long before the paint goes on. It is decided on the days the concrete is poured.

On the day of the pour

Every truck of concrete is checked before it is used. A slump test shows whether the mix has the right amount of water. Too wet, and the concrete will be weak. Too dry, and it will not fill the formwork properly.

Cubes for the laboratory

From each pour we cast sample cubes, label them with the date and location, and send them to an independent laboratory. They are crushed at 7 and 28 days to confirm the concrete has reached its design strength.

Curing

Fresh concrete needs to stay wet to gain strength. Slabs are kept under water for at least seven days, and columns are wrapped and watered.

Good concrete is mostly patience.

Records you can ask for

Test reports are filed by floor and by date. Any customer is welcome to see the reports for their own building.
